Once again I learn that in life happiness and sadness are close bed-fellows. It is with deep sadness that I have just been informed of the death in Afghanistan of one of our own 
C/Sgt Stuart Murray was killed in Afghanistan on Saturday 15th August whilst working for ArmorGroup. Stuart served in the Royal Irish Rangers and the Royal Irish Regiment following the amalgamation and left the Regiment as a Colour Sergeant with 4 R IRISH on the disbandment of the Home Service Battalions. He then joined 40 (Ulster) Signal Regiment as a TA Soldier.
He is survived by his wife and their two young children.
I knew Stuart. He was an experienced and very professional Soldier and it's somewhat ironic that he served continuously for so many years here in the province and survived when so many of our lads were being killed ... and then this.
