  • RFN N Smith 2RGJ - 4th of March 1978

It was during the first week of March 1978 that Nick Smith was killed by a booby trap in the Crossmaglen area of South Armagh. Only two weeks previously the CO Lt Col ID Corden-Lloyd OBE MC had been killed in a helicopter incident nearby.

Nick Smith of B Coy had been tasked to remove an Irish flag from a telephone pole, there was an explosive device hidden in the pole and Nick was killed instantly. Led by the CSM, his comrades faced the grim task of collecting his remains from the surrounding area. RIP

Be who you are and say what you feel...
Because those that matter, don't mind.
And those that mind, don't matter!

Tomorrow it will be thirty nine years since twenty year old Nicky Smith lost his life. Another victim of "Bandit Country".

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn
