    WO1(RSM) Mike Heakin. Aged 30.
    Shot dead as he sat in his car which was stopped at traffic lights at Oostende in Belgium, on the 12-08-1988.



    He had a trailer in tow. His car had the old type BFG plates . It was after his death the BFG plates were change to English style Plates.

        He is not forgotten mate.
        I whent all over southern Europe in my Ford capri EN124 B, those BFG plates got you waived straight through most customs posts but were a dead give away, I suppose in the '70s, we never thought it would spread but we were soon proved wrong.
        Spanners do it with their tools.

                He will be remebered like all of them...

                They may have changed the plates to English style...I was In Belgium in May waiting for ferry at Dunkirque...there was several cars with these plates on...they are still the German style...white plates Black letters etc...still stand out as BFG...waste of time..unless they replicate what we use over here.

                    I served with Mike in1 RRW, He was my CQMS, CSM and eventually my RSM, A fantastic honest and fare soldier and a genuine good guy, His death hit the Battalion hard and he will never be forgoten, RIP mike.
