I remember John and the night he was ambushed on the Crumlin Rd, I was in a covert OP on the Fire Station. We all, to a man, wanted to break cover and go to his aid. Skipper said no. The soft skins should never have been used as mobiles, not in the Ardoyne, we had pigs available. But thats the way it was then. I remember you, John, 40 years really isn't that long. You'll always be in our hearts. There is a poppy for you and all the others, in November, as there is every year. RIP mate.

It's my daughter Rose-maree's 19th birthday today which coincides with the 40th anniversary of my friend John's death. Very mixed emotions for me. Rosie is aware of the other connection to this date and is really sympathetic towards my occasional sadness. It helps a bit with the pain of the memory.

It's what our children do Jock...they repay the times you picked them up, cuddled them and said 'there - there now' It's a bitter sweet moment old lad, but a precious one.
            Remembering your friend John.
            Respect Bro...
