William Gordon, 41, married 3 children - school attendance officer /
L/Cpl (Part-time) 5UDR
Lesley Gordon, 10, schoolgirl
"Willy had reversed his car out the driveway of his home at Grove Terrace, Maghera, to take his 10 year old daughter Lesley and his seven year old son to school. As he drove the car forward a piece of fishing line attached to the tyre air valve of the front wheel was pulled, triggering a device placed in the wheel arch of his Ford Escort.
Willy and Lesley were both killed instantly. His son was badly injured and subsequently lost an eye.
His car had been parked outside his house all night, and Willy had been seen to check beneath his car for devices. Fishing line of the type used is very difficult to detect, as was the device where the it had been placed.
The Belfast Telegraph reported: "The children of Culnady Primary School bowed their heads in prayer today, and thanked God for the "serenity and lovingness" which he had bestowed on little Lesley Gordon.
Seconds later her name was struck off the register.""
(exerpt from 'Lost Lives')
The South Derry ASU led by Francis Hughes was believed to be responsible for this attack. Hughes was the second prisoner to die on the Hunger Strike in 1981. Most of his ASU are thought to be dead.
Rest peaceful, together.
