Sgt. Anthony Stephen Butcher - Aged 24
Royal Army Ordnance Corps

Killed on 15th March 1972 while attempting to defuse a car bomb just off the Grosvenor Road, Belfast.

I think these famous words sum up just what we think of these brave men ... whose bravery and sacrifice has given the gift of life to so many.

The life that I have is all that I have,
and the life that I have is yours.
The love that I have, of the life that I have,
is yours, and yours, and yours.

A sleep I shall have, a rest I shall have,
yet death will be but a pause.
For the peace of my years in the long green grass,

I think I can say with conviction that the Grovesnor Road area of Belfast was probably the most diverse in the city. Unlike the Falls Road nearby, it could be quite for weeks, and then.................
When sitting alone, my mind sometimes wanders to those times thirty six years ago. With a lack of decent kit, the EOD lads would tackle the most risky of jobs, with nothing but a screwdriver and a pair of pliers. They were the bravest of the brave.
RIP. May his soul be at peace forever.

BB you have not been far from my thoughts to day.
I was working but as I was in Liverpool docks I took time to raise my cup of tea memory of your dad . I will raise a glass of Whiskey tonight.
A brave man who took those steps alone doing his job that save many lives. He will not been forgotten .
