After running for their charity’s they boarded the bus, on starting the engine the bus exploded killing all six soldiers, This outrage was condemned by all as the soldiers were running to help local charities.

Cpl Ian Metcalfe - 1 Green Howards and colleagues

For Metty and the boys, 20 years ago, I was in the middle of a 4 month tour of the Falklands when I got a call from Ebrington Barracks. the 2IC Maj R**** was on the phone and he told me Metty had been killed. It was another two months before I got home and returned to the Battalion to find out exactly what had happened. I had by this time been to Bradford and visited Metty's grave. I was posted back to replace Metty as the Battalion Movements clerk along with Lcpl Steve M****. Metty's Office had not been fully cleared out and we found pictures and his dress shoes.

A Guy who did not shrink from showing the new guys the ropes, and really helped them adjust to Battalion life. A Leader amongst men and someone I am am proud to have called a friend. 20 Years on and the memories do not lessen. Stand Easy Silver.

Thank you all for your caring and support.

They stole our lads from us, but they cannot take our memories.

Rest well lads, our love is with you.
