  • Norman Robinson

I arrived home today to learn of the death of a dear friend, one who served his Queen and country with honour, pride and dignity.

Norman Robinson - ex Ulster Defence Regiment died today after having being diagnosed with cancer. Norman's daughter brought her wedding forward in the hope that her beloved dad would get to be there ... and he was. I believe that it was that which gave him the strength to fight and the will to live for that little while longer. A giant among men, full of life and fun, the life and soul of many a party, he will be sadly missed.

    Rest in peace my friend

Jimmy for the big man who stood when others ran away.

                    The UDR Soldier

                    As poppy petals gently fall

Remember us who gave our all

Not in the mud of foreign lands

Nor buried in the desert sands.

In Ulster field and farm and town,

                    Fermanagh's lanes and drumlin'd Down

We died that violent death should cease

And Ulstermen might live in peace.

We did not serve because we hate

                    Nor bitterness our hearts dictate.

But we were they who must aspire

To quench the flame of terror's fire.

As buglers sound and pipers play

                    The proud battalions march away

Now may the weary violence cease

                    And let our country live

                    in peace
