Captain Andrew Mark Vere Nicoll, 5 Regiment Army Air Corps, single and aged 27 from Hougham, Lincolnshire died on 22nd December 2003 when his helicopter spiralled out of control and crashed on a flight between Omagh and Ballykelly. Andrew was a world class canoeist and had been in training for the 2004 Olympics. His co-pilot was also killed.

Laid to rest in the pretty and peaceful All Saints Churchyard in Hougham at the end of an isolated country lane, unfortunately the lead has been stripped from the roof.

It being December I also took the opportunity to re-visit my old pal Sapper Howard Benson Edwards in my home town:

Good to to see family is now visiting regularly, (not my poppy cross), so I shall leave them to give the headstone a good scrub.

Be who you are and say what you feel...
Because those that matter, don't mind.
And those that mind, don't matter!

His co-pilot was Sgt Simon Bennett, aged 35 who is laid to rest in Telford, Shropshire.
