A British soldier has been shot dead while on a foot patrol in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence has said.
The soldier from A Company 4 Rifles, was killed by small arms fire near Sangin, in Helmand province, on Monday morning. His family have been told.
The MoD says his death was not connected to Operation Moshtarak, the Nato offensive in southern Afghanistan.
The death brings the number of British soldiers killed on operations in Afghanistan since 2001 to 267.
