Here is a list of all those who received medals for service in Afghanistan and Iraq for the period 1 April to 30 September 2009. They include two awarded posthumously to Staff Sgt Olaf Schmid and Capt Daniel Shepherd. Their names are marked with an asterisk. Names in blue link to BBC stories about the individuals.

Distinguished Service Order
Awarded for highly successful command and leadership during active operations. Originally instituted to reward junior officers in the Army, following a review it was replaced by the all service, all ranks Conspicuous Gallantry Cross. Although available to all ranks, the DSO is now awarded only to the more senior officer ranks. Further acts of bravery attract additional "bar" hence, the award "Bar to Distinguished Service Order" given to Lieutenant Colonel Angus Fair.

Associate Royal Red Cross Medal
The Royal Red Cross is only awarded to members of the Nursing Services. It consists of two classes.
