Tonights news, Nine Aus soldiers have been wounded in a fight with the taliban, the soldiers have been attacking taliban strongholds on a regular basis, this time there was an ambush. It is the heaviest engagemant of Aus troops since Vietnam.
Extent of injuries is not yet known, will keep all informed.

Tonights news, all 9 are doing well, the most seriously wounded bloke has undergone more surgery and should be moved to Germany as soon as possible. :)

Aussie killed

An Australian soldier has been killed in Afghanistan in a rocket attack whilst assisting local troops, his name has been withheld at the families request untill they are ready.
RIP digger, duty done.

Some good news, Trooper Mark Donaldson of the Aus SAS was today awardedd the V C for his actions in Afghanistan, his convoy came under fire and some men were wounded, he returned fire and drew fire upon himself whilst the wounded were moved to cover, he saw thier local interpreter lying wounded about 80 metres away, ran over and brought him to safety.
He is the first Aussie to get the V C in 40 years, the last one was in Vietnam and he attended the ceremony with the Governer General 8) 8)
Mark comes from Perth.

Hero Trooper Vows to go Back

An Australian soldier who became the first to be awarded the Victoria Cross in 40 years has vowed to go back to Afghanistan.

Trooper Mark Donaldson became the 97th Australian to receive the top military award for bravery in wartime since the South African Boer War of 1899-1902 and the first in the last four decades.
Donaldson was awarded the cross for courage when an armoured patrol of Australian, US and Afghan troops was ambushed by a superior force of insurgents in Uruzgan province on September 2 last year.
