I met Paul in 1976 when I was posted to training company in Winchester after completing my junior service. He had joined up as a potential officer but had to work his way up through the ranks before receiving a commission. He served for over thirty years and transferred to The Rifles when the RGJ were disbanded. Tragically Paul lost his life serving in Iraq in 2007 in a mortar attack.

Major Paul Harding was killed by mortar fire while securing a route for a supply convoy. Maj Harding, who was a rifleman for 30 years, was married with two teenage sons.
